thoughtsThere is a interesting question :”If someone is born without any senses, would they be able to be conscious?“. A question concerning philosophy of mind and consciousness. This is where the famous “Cogito, ergo sum” from René Descartes stemmed from.
I am just thinking another similar question concerning about beauty or any other form of beautiful things we ‘appreciate’ today. The question is:
“Imagine a child born without any sense of beauty, then one day. He/she gain the sense to see or feel something beautiful. What would that beauty be? “
The reason I think of this problem is that nowadays people are constantly pursuing what they call beauty, cosmetics, luxury clothes, fancy bags. All this materialized stuff, is just the way we try to fulfill our void. Are they really beauty, no I dont think so. For example, the most basics things like a smell of well-cooked dishes, a touch on the silk can be beautiful things for this child.
Another thing is that the thought and the concept of beauty are so strongly affected by the environment of our surroundings and the media feeding us. We say this clothe is fashion, after 1 month it’s maybe just out dated and treated as garbage. Fashion world always want to make more and more bizarre just to catch people’s eyes.
So to me, simplicity is beauty itself.
