We do "presentation" everyday, it does not necessarilly mean the actual presentation, every time you try to convince someone or explain to someone about something, you are presenting. Overall you want to plant informations on others and recieve feedbacks.

I was doing presentation today to bunch of other departments' collegues. I was giveing an update on the project I was working on and I planned to get more support from PI. There are  a few things I need to improve:

  • Be clear with your goal: what do you want to get through the presenation, what's your objective. stay close to it. focus on it, always remember the goal, do not deviate from it when you make the presentation.
  • Know your audience: so I was making this mistake by talking too much detail of the project which bored the audience, always people dont have the patience. So stick to the important thing which relates back to point 1: your goal.
  • Better use plot, table, numbers to show data and convince others: no one likes reading all the writting on the slides. Also, number is more convincing than simply describing the trend.
  • Practice, practice, practice: practice before the presentation, record yourself (trust me you will be surprised).

Anyway, eventually, you are doing the presentation. Be confident, at least pretend to be.
